!±8± How to Avoid Mistakes in Goal Setting

Goal setting and having aims in general are the most effective ways to enable yourself to live the life you always dreamt of. Unfortunately, the process of setting objectives needs to be performed wisely and is therefore done faulty by the majority of people. In the following I'm going to present you the biggest errors that people commit while setting aims.

Mistake #1: Having no goal-setting-worksheet
One of the most common mistakes that is being made while determining ambitions and aspirations is that people don't use notepads to write down their goals. Even though it might take some effort to write down all your visions and objectives, it is very crucial to do so, since it helps you to remember your goals and enables you to never lose focus on your aims.

Mistake #2: New Year's resolutions
New Year's Eve is for the vast majority of Americans the time to look back and sum up the past. People also start to reflect the changes that they want to make and set themselves new goals and resolutions for the upcoming year. Researches realized by Quirkology.com have shown that only 12% of the participants have achieved their New Year's resolutions after a year. This data reveals that approximately 92% of the New Year's resolutions have failed, because people are not planning ahead, make last minute decisions and try to achieve too many goals.

Don't get trapped by this mistake. Instead of thinking about your aims only once a year you should consider the goal setting process as a continuous procedure that you perform several times during the year, additionally to your New Year's resolutions. Make sure that you are able to take some time out for a few days, in order to reflect and set your aims properly.

Mistake #3: Negotiations
The most common goal phrases sound something like: "I do not want to smoke any longer" or "I do not want to drink so much alcohol in the next months". These aims are condemned to fail, since our brain can't recognize negotiations. Instead it will decipher the goal setting phrase like this:

"I do want to drink so much alcohol in the next month!" "I do want to smoke any longer!"

A vicious circle as you can see. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to avoid negotiations while you are planning your aims.

Mistake #4: Unspecific goals without a time frame
Being unspecific and having no time frame can also cause failure when trying to pursue a specific purpose. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that you reflect your aims exactly in order that you are able to know precisely how you will achieve your goal and at what specific time you will have achieved it. For example you could plan to go to the gym Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays during the time from 6pm till 7pm and strength your back muscles, instead of just planning to go to the gym.

Mistake #5: Not reflecting previous goals
Once in a while we will fail and are not able to reach a specific goal. In this situation it would be very problematic if we wouldn't reflect the reasons for this failure, but instead decide to attempt to achieve the same goal once more. This behavior will only cause another failure, since you will be frustrated and disappointed by the previous failure. You can simply avoid this by reflecting the reasons that have obstructed you to reach your aspiration.

Having goals in life is a very crucial element of success. Furthermore, you are now able to identify some of the most common mistakes and avoid them while you are setting your goals. You can now implement organizational and smart goal setting methods that are an important step into a future full of prosperity.

The 6P LED is a compact high-output flashlight featuring a hard-anodized aerospace aluminum body. It uses a virtually indestructible power-regulated LED and a precision micro-textured reflector to produce a smooth 80-lumen beam—four times the light of a big two-D-cell flashlight, and more than enough to temporarily blind and disorient an aggressor by impairing his night-adapted vision.
